Blue Angels motto
"Teamwork. Professionalism. Precision."
"Glad to be here" tradition
After every flight, each pilot offers their critique of the performance, concluding with the words "Glad to be here". It signifies their gratitude and humility, regardless of how well the flight went.
Former Blue Angels lead pilot John Foley explains the meaning: "Sometimes 'Glad to be here' meant that we were thankful for the opportunity... Sometimes it meant that we were thankful for being surrounded by a great team... And sometimes it meant that we were just grateful for being alive".
On teamwork and excellence
On the foundation of the team: "Being on this team is like being part of a well-oiled machine. Each member brings unique strengths, working together seamlessly towards the common goal" — ADCS Jeramy Rouse, a Blue Angels maintenance chief.
On the nature of formation flying: "The Blue Angels fly their jets 18 inches apart. When flying that close, you can see the cracks in the paint of the aircraft next to you. Achieving this level of precision requires connection, alignment, and commitment".
On trust within the team: "The only way that we can fly the way we do is because of trust" — Former Blue Angels pilot Jim Cox.
On passion and inspiration
On inspiring future generations: "The faces of children thrilled today by blue and gold are the faces I wish to see take my place tomorrow" — From the Blue Angels Creed.
On the experience of being a Blue Angel: "It is a true honor and a responsibility I carry with pride every day" — AM1 Adriana Sanchez, a Blue Angels crew chief.
On working toward goals: "Dreams can be a reality, and that's what I tell my family every day. No matter how many times you fail, never give up" — AM2 Jerry Rumbaugh, a member of the paint shop team.
